Montclair Township is inviting qualified applicants to apply to be Montclair’s next Township Manager. Located 12 miles west of Manhattan, this vibrant community is home to approximately 41,000 residents within an area of 6.3 square miles. Montclair’s government is organized under the Council-Manager Plan (Faulkner Act), has a $103 million municipal and $10 million utility budget, and has 390 full-time and 90 part-time employees.

The Township Manager is the Chief Executive Officer of the municipal government, responsible to a seven-member Township Council (consisting of a Mayor and six Township Council members).

The ideal candidate sought by the governing body will demonstrate the following: exceptional verbal and written communication skills that foster collaboration, responsiveness and respect; a track record of success in local government or corporate management; an ability to work effectively in a culturally rich community; experience managing a large and diverse organization; and experience building a strong organizational culture focused on excellence in customer service. The ideal candidate should also have experience guiding the growth and redevelopment goals established by the governing body and insights into the impact proposals can have on the quality of life within the community, its unique/historic characteristics, its finances, and long-range sustainability. Applicants should also be ready to demonstrate advanced negotiating abilities, the effective use of technology to facilitate communication and strong analytical abilities.

An advanced degree in management, law or related field is desired but not required.
