The City of Airdrie has developed a new Community Investment Funds (CIF) Policy. This grassroots initiative provides funding to eligible, local not-for-profit organizations and neighbourhood associations to support sustainable festivals, events and/or neighbourhood projects within Airdrie that enhance the quality of life of residents.

“Council is very excited about this new initiative to support local events and festivals,” said Mayor Peter Brown. “True community spirit is created by residents having the opportunity to participate in events that allow them to get to know their neighbours and enjoy their city. Council is committed to enhancing resident’s quality of life by supporting initiatives such as CIF.”

Through the CIF program, eligible groups can apply for three different levels of funding, including:

Neighbourhood Matching Funds – provides up to $500 matching to be used for an activity or project that promotes safer neighbourhoods and/or social connection by bringing neighbours together.

Small Scale Festivals and Events Funds – provides up to $5,000 matching to be used for small, local events or festivals that focus on a specific interest.

Large Scale Festivals and Events Funds – provides up to $15,000 to established, local not-for-profit groups that can organize and host festivals and events that are multi-faceted, have established or potential audience support and have the capacity to strengthen local economies.

The City will accept applications for Neighbourhood Matching Funds year-round. Applications for the Festivals and Events Funds Small and Large Scale will be accepted annually. The application deadline for the 2014 Festivals and Events Funds Small and Large Scale is April 30, 2013.

Groups that receive funding will be asked to report back on how the funds were used and the impact and outcomes of the event or initiative to the neighbourhood or community.

The City is hosting a CIF Information Session to provide community groups with information about the Community Investment Funds program.
