Local governments go to great lengths to measure their performance, audit their financial data, and track their results. Still, there is a mindset in some places that such information should remain a closely guarded secret.
Through the Certificates in Performance Measurement, ICMA has worked to change that mindset by
- Encouraging public data reporting
- Recognizing jurisdictions for their accomplishments in the field
- Sharing leading practice examples from those honored.
The program is open to all general-purpose local governments. ICMA performance measurement program participants can apply for free. If you think you measure up, download a certificate application and submit it by May 16, 2014.
Don’t think you’re ready yet? Then take this opportunity to download the certificate criteria. See what next steps might be in order to build upon your efforts. And check out the sample documents we’ve posted to show how others are reporting to the public, using data in strategic planning, networking with their peers, or customizing dashboards for local decision makers.
Those receiving a certificate of achievement, distinction, or excellence will be honored at ICMA’s 100th Annual Conference in Charlotte/Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, September 14-17, 2014. Individuals with questions can contact Gerald Young at gyoung@icma.org.
