ICMA is seeking a slate of diverse candidates interested in serving three-year terms on the ICMA Credentialing Advisory Board beginning in September 2020.
Eligible candidates are:
- Credentialed Managers who have been in the program for at least three years and have local government CAO experience, whether currently in service to local government or retired.
- Academic representatives, such as professors of public administration.
The Credentialing Advisory Board is dedicated to ensuring that ICMA’s commitment to diverse leadership—gender, race, ethnicity, age, etc.—is recognized in the process.
Members have found work on the Credentialing Advisory Board to be very rewarding, but also a significant time commitment with monthly deadlines, conference calls, an annual meeting held in the spring or summer, and a few meetings/sessions at the ICMA Annual Conference. Credentialing Advisory Board work requires both the ability to work at a policy level and be detail-oriented.
According to ICMA Executive Board policy, the candidates to be considered may be from any state in the Northeast region with preference given to rotating representation. Northeast states: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts*, New Hampshire*, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. (*New Hampshire and Massachusetts are already represented on the Credentialing Advisory Board. Past protocol is that no state may succeed itself on the Credentialing Advisory Board, nor may the new member come from a state that is already represented, unless there are no qualified candidates from the other states expressing interest in serving.)
Candidates should contact ICMA at credentialing@icma.org by May 31, 2020, with interest and for more information regarding responsibilities. Top candidates will be asked to talk with the ICMA Credentialing Advisory Board Chair regarding duties and time commitment, and the chair will make recommendations to the ICMA Executive Director and ICMA President. The ICMA President will make final selections.
