After over two decades of providing technical assistance for local governments across the country, ICMA’s research, technical assistance, and program centers are hosting their first regional workshop in the Chicago metropolitan area, May 1st in the Village of Hoffman Estates, IL on leading practices in civic engagement.  Director Tad McGalliard explains, “We are very excited about our first regional training in Illinois and have already started organizing future workshops in Boston and Charlotte.”  ICMA’s centers provide knowledge and content resources on the key issues that local government leaders, managers, staff, and partners need to create stronger communities.  The four current centers include:

•    Center for Management Strategies
•    Center for Sustainable Communities
•    Center for Public Safety Management
•    Center for Performance Measurement

The May 1st workshop entitled, “Engaging Your Community:  It’s More than Three Minutes at the Microphone!” will provide an overview of the latest civic engagement trends and best practices for local government managers and their staff teams.  Led by a team of leading practitioners in citizen engagement, this fast-paced, hands-on workshop will help participants identify first steps toward building an effective, coordinated civic engagement program for their organizations. More information about registration for the May 1st, 2014 workshop in the Chicagoland area will be available on the ICMA program centers’ online events calendar in the coming days.
