State association leaders are invited to a special meeting at the 2013 ICMA Annual Conference to explore how to bring Coaching Program resources to their state association members. Scheduled for Monday, September 23, at 11:15 am, the session will explore best practices and lessons learned from representatives of other state associations that already sponsor the Coaching Program as a way to accelerate the development of emerging leaders in local government. Read more.
ICMA has increased its financial support of the Cal-ICMA Coaching Program for 2014 so that we can expand the participation by other state associations and offer it to all employees of any city or county organization affiliated with your state association.
State association leaders should RSVP their attendance by contacting Frank Benest, ICMA Senior Advisor for Next Gen Initiatives at frank@frankbenest.com.

Interested in partnering for Coaching Program resources in your state?
ICMA wants to enhance leadership talent and skills at all levels in local government agencies. In support of these efforts, ICMA provided an incentive grant in 2013 for State Associations to leverage the benefits of the well-established Cal-ICMA Coaching Program. Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Oregon partnered in this program in 2013, which is reaching 4,000 attendees each year. The benefits include:
- Content: webinars, coaching compass newsletters, etc.
- Coaches: templates for each participating state to develop a cadre of volunteer coaches for its own "Coaches Gallery"
- Connections: proven programs like speed coaching events at state association meetings and area managers’ meetings as well as other resources so that you can readily adopt and adapt what will work for your state.
