Police Officers and City Marshals throughout the North Texas area conducted a region-wide warrant round-up the week of September 16-24, 2006 resulting in the clearing of over 7,000 warrants.
“A total of 7,573 warrants were cleared in the region, valued at $2,351,926.62,” said Ms. Vicki Smith, Court Administrator for the Plano Municipal Court. “1,841 of warrants cleared were cleared by arrests made by other jurisdictions other than the various cities.”
During the week of the regional warrant roundup, law enforcement officers from the North Texas region fanned out through the area to arrest individuals with outstanding warrants pending before their respective municipal courts. Officers from over 31 municipalities in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Johnson, Rockwall and Tarrant counties participated.
Persons with outstanding warrants were encouraged to contact the municipal court where their warrant was issued to make arrangements to clear their warrant to avoid being arrested in their home or place of business. Postcards, letters, door hangers, television appearances, press releases, flyers, utility billing inserts and other information were used by the respective cities to publicize the round-up.
Plano cleared 371 warrants carrying a value of $119,987, with other jurisdictions clearing an additional 164 (Plano) warrants valued at $51,687. The top five cities in clearing warrants were Grand Prairie (1,054); Irving (902); Dallas (610); Plano (535); Arlington (509).
The success of the region-wide round-up indicates future round-ups can be expected.
