Over the past few years, ICMA and GFOA have been working on Rethinking Budgeting. The goal of this project was to think about how advances in scientific understanding about how people make decisions; technology; and other relevant fields could be used to make local government budgeting more responsive to challenges communities face.

The final set of documents has the potential to spark important conversations about how local governments approach budgeting. Many ICMA and GFOA members, researchers, and other interested parties have been part of the development of Rethinking Budgeting. The final draft documents are up for public comment.
