To assist communities after a disaster, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), Washington, D.C., developed the website restoreyoureconomy.org as a resource for organizations that work to assist businesses and to rebuild the local economy.
Resources are regularly added to the website to help with disaster preparedness efforts and to provide community leaders in disaster-impacted communities with the tools and resources needed to retain businesses, restore lost jobs, and promote sustainable economic recovery and resiliency.
Here are examples of what can be done at the website:
• Download video recordings of a leadership seminar for public officials on economic resiliency; planning for post-disaster redevelopment.
• View, in the Learn section, webinar recordings on economic recovery priorities immediately after a disaster, how to develop a post-disaster small business financing programs, and planning efforts to protect community assets.
• Read about the top six priorities in the short-term for economic recovery.
• Review federal, state, and other resources for communities impacted by Superstorm Sandy.
• Learn about future free-learning events on how to encourage local businesses to engage in business continuity efforts;
• Discover new data tools to assist economic recovery professionals in analyzing impacts on the workforce and transportation for emergency related events as well as tools to better understand hazard-prone areas.
• Read case studies on preparedness and recovery topics in other disaster-impacted communities.
If you have a resource to suggest for the site, including an economic preparedness or recovery plan, case study, business survey, or other material, submit it at the website. The site is funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
