On Saturday, August 3rd, Brax Stadium, PPD Miracle League accessible field and the Kiwanis Miracle playground had their grand opening. The complex, with the nation’s largest accessible sports field and the largest accessible playground in the South, serves children and wounded warriors, as well as seniors with disabilities. The facilities were built through a public/private partnership between Accessible Coastal Carolina Events Sports and Services (ACCESS) and Miracle League of Wilmington with the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County, and made possible through the generous contributions of many donors.
According to the Miracle League, nearly 1 in 5 people in New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus and Pender counties have a disability and many are unable to participate in organized sports due to a lack of safe and accessible facilities. The Miracle Field and playground is the first fully accessible park in Wilmington, NC. It will offer a dedicated space to play baseball and enjoy the outdoors - promoting physical activity, camaraderie, a sense of teamwork and fun for all!
