On February 14, ICMA canvassed member votes on the four proposed amendments to the ICMA Constitution. The proposals, proposed and endorsed by the ICMA Executive Board, addressed expanding the opportunity for Affiliate members to vote, serve on the ICMA Executive Board, and serve on the ICMA Regional Nominating Committee. An additional proposal addressed revising the timeline for implementing approved Constitutional amendments.

Amendments to the ICMA Constitution require the approval of Full (Corporate) members. Eligible members had the opportunity between January 10 and February 10 to review the background information and to vote via the electronic ballot or by mail if they did not have an email address on file with ICMA. As per the Constitution, three Full members oversaw the tally of the final results.

Of the 7,565 eligible voters, 1,826 (24%) participated. All four proposed amendments to the Constitution were approved.

On the proposal to extend voting privileges to Affiliate members serving in an appointed position in local government who have 5 years of local government experience and 5 years of ICMA membership:

Members who are now eligible to vote as a result of this constitutional change will be receiving a communication shortly. They will be eligible to vote in the upcoming ballot this May.  Other members will be notified as they become eligible to vote and serve on the board.
