ICMA is pleased to announce the selection of Michael Land, city manager of Coppell, Texas, as the 2024-2025 President-Elect.

The ICMA Executive Board selected Land following a thorough interview regarding his vision and direction for ICMA during the board meeting held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, June 21-22. As president-elect, Land will serve a one-year term before assuming the role of president on October 25, 2025, at the ICMA Annual Conference in Tampa/Hillsborough County, Florida.

With a distinguished career that spans more than 30 years in local government, Land has been pivotal in driving community growth and development. His experience leading community engagement, economic development, and sustainability initiatives to enhance the quality of life of residents has garnered widespread recognition among ICMA’s membership.

“Michael’s passion for public service and dedication to the profession is unparalleled,” said Lon Pluckhahn, ICMA President (deputy city manager, Vancouver, Washington). “He has done phenomenal work in attracting and retaining staff, and his extensive background in forging relationships will further strengthen ICMA's work in highlighting the value of professional management. ICMA will prosper as the preeminent global thought leader on local government management and administration under his leadership.”

In addition to his accomplished career as a public servant and city manager, Land has been a dedicated ICMA member. He currently serves on the Leadership Institute on Race, Equity, and Inclusion; is a member of the Global Engagement Committee; served on the ICMA Executive Board as ICMA Regional Vice President, 2018-2021; served on the Graduate Education Committee, 2017-2020; is a past president of the Texas City Management Association; and is a regular presenter at ICMA’s annual and regional conferences providing insight on effective leadership and management.
