The ICMA Code of Ethics was created in 1924 and remains a core value of the organization. Equity, transparency, honor, integrity, commitment, and stewardship are standards of excellence in democratic local governance.
ICMA promotes the highest standards of ethical conduct in the local government management profession by providing advice, education, and training to members and enforcing the ICMA Code of Ethics through a peer review process.
As a part of the celebration, we would like to capture and share your stories about a moment in time when you exercised true moral courage in dealing with a difficult challenge. The story can be from personal experience or that of a peer, mentor or role model.
In addition to stories, reflections on the importance and relevancy that the Code plays in professional life are also welcome.
Help us launch this effort by sharing:
- Your story about a moment when faced with a difficult challenge, you exercised moral courage and did the right thing.
- The story of a colleague whose conduct exemplifies the best of our profession.
- Reflections on what the Code of Ethics means to you in your daily life and why it is so critical to the profession.
Share your story online here by entering your content into the form at the bottom of the page, by September 5. Note that these stories will be published on the website and in other ICMA venues.
