On May 26, 2015, at the International Conference on Urban Health in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Joshua Franzel, PhD offered the presentation: "Local Governments and Local Public Health Departments in the United States: Coordinating to Address Public Health Challenges". The presentation was part of the "Governance for Urban Health" plenary session.

Franzel's presenation discussed local public health services that are provided across the United States; the roles general local governments fill in supporting public health; and state and local efforts to improve local government and public health entity coodination.

Jo Ivey Boufford, MD of the New York Academy of Medicine opened the session with comments and moderated the panel. The session also included a presentation from Uta Dietrich of the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health and a video from Linda Gibbs of Bloomberg Associates.
