Local government's location at the focal point for brownfield redevelopment makes its participation key in coordination of stakeholders and resources necessary for effective cleanup and redevelopment of idle, contaminated land sites known as “brownfields.”  Local governments can play a leading role in any of the following phases of the redevelopment process:

• Visioning:  Recognize a community or economic need.
• Formulating Reuse Scenarios: Evaluate business opportunity, financial viability, economic impacts and environmental conditions for the reuse of a property.
• Transaction:  Resolve risk management issues to facilitate property title transfer (if necessary).
• Implementing Redevelopment:  Conduct environmental remediation, construction and renovation steps, and ultimately sell the property.

The Brownfields2013 Conferences offers invaluable learning and networking opportunities for local governments and all stakeholders involved in cleanup and remediation of brownfields.  The conference will take place on May 15-17, 2013 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta; however online resources, including the Interactive Property Map and Resource Directory are available to the public now.

The Event: Brownfields 2013 Economic Redevelopment Forum (ERF)

A highlight of this May's U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 2013 National Brownfields Conference  is the Economic Redevelopment Forum (ERF).  Attendees will network, discuss, and explore redevelopment topics and opportunities in a collaborative, interpersonal setting.  In 2013, the ERF will operate for two full days in a central location during the National Brownfields Conference at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The ERF’s three components include the following:

• Stakeholder Marketplace. The ERF’s Stakeholder Marketplace will foster communication between property owners, agencies, prospective buyers from all industries, and multiple levels of government. Through multi-media and in-person interactions, available properties can be showcased; and states and municipalities can profile the vital financing tools and incentives they have to offer. This setting provides an ideal venue for property owners and potential buyers to begin the process of redevelopment. Federal government agencies will also be represented to complement state and local resources in the “Federal Triangle.”
• Advisory Panel Consultations. The Advisory area will provide attendees a central location to schedule and conduct private meetings with transaction professionals offering a range of brownfields redevelopment expertise, including finance, legal, insurance, and more. Sessions to consult with a cross-sectional team of experts on a property will also be offered. Designated tables and chairs will be available throughout the ERF space for spontaneous sit-down meetings.
• Redevelopment "Center Stage.” Located in the ERF is a venue where interactive educational sessions will be held covering key sub-market topics. Session topics will follow a logical sequence from Basic to Advanced as the conferences progresses deepening understanding and expanding considerations in brownfield redevelopment issues.

How to Submit a Property

While registraion and attendance at the Brownfield 2013 Conference and Economic Redevelopment Forum is not necessary to list property(ies) on the Interactive Google Map, you will need to an account on the Brownfield Conference website. To create a free account and post your property(ies), complete the following steps:

1. Click the the far-right "Sign in" tab.
2. Click the "Create a new account" button to set up your account.
3. Go to "My Account" and click the "Economic Redevelopment Forum" tab.
4. From here, you can click the blue "Submit a new property" button to post a new site.
5. Manage and update your property information as needed
