"Crisis Leadership for Local Government Officials" was created in cooperation with the National League of Cities (NLC) through a grant funded by the Department of Homeland Security.
The two-day course looks at what a community should do before, during, and following a crisis with the goal of recovering from an incident. The program has been updated to include mitigation, community risk reduction, and recovery information developed from incidents that have occurred across the United States.
Among the topics that will be presented:
- How do you create a risk-hazard-vulnerability plan?
- Who is speaking for you and do they know what they are doing?
- Are your businesses and industry prepared and what can you do to help?
- Where can you seek funding for starting, maintaining or updating a program?
- What should you be thinking about during pre-planning and recovery?
This training program is designed for a community team to attend, so they can take what they've learned and prepare for a crisis. In addition, the Center for Public Safety Management is launching a new program to assist communities with pre-planning and creating an All-Hazard Risk Management Plan. City managers, their staff, and elected officials are encouraged to attend in a group to become familiar with the National Response Framework and their roles in responding to critical incidents.
This program is designed to educate local leaders about their roles in emegency management, support the National Preparedness Goals of meeting specific national priorities of expanded regional collaboration, and strengthen information sharing and interoperable communications.
This program addresses ICMA Practice Areas 2 and 3: Policy Facilitation and Functional and Operational Expertise and Planning.
This two-day training program (16 hours total) can be used to launch the creation of an all-hazard plan for your community.
