The City of Olathe, Kansas is nominated for the 2006 ICMA Award for Community Health and Safety, for the Olathe Police Department's "Neighborhood Traffic Safety Program." The program has had success in addressing citizen concerns about the speed in which individuals were driving their vehicles on residential streets. Police department staff provide greater enforcement in the problem areas (enforcement levels are determined by traffic studies) and educate individuals as to how they can help mitigate speeding problems.
