This is the 2010 nomination of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina's Planned Development - Workforce Housing (PD-WFH) Zoning District program for the Community Sustainability Award. Town Administrator R. Mac Burdette is credited with aiding in the development of this program to provide opportunities for private developers to produce housing affordable to moderate income households, particularly for essential workers such as teachers, nurses, police officers, and fire fighters. One goal of this program is to reduce the number of individuals and families who are forced to commute to the city, thereby lessening the amount of traffic in the town.
