After the 2004, 2005 hurricane season the State of Florida funded The Statewide Regional Evacuation Study Program (SRESP) in 2006. The funding includes two inter- related and dependent projects; $24.5 million for Light Detection and Ranging data (LiDAR) and $4.5 million in order to update each Region’s Evacuation Study. The study details the Costal High hazard Area, the hurricane Vulnerability Zone and provides a standard to measure the effect development has on clearance times and shelter demand for the purposes of mitigation. The SRESP
requires collaboration between the local, regional, State and Federal Agencies.
