For the past 14 years, the Town of Bedford has aggressively implemented an affordable housing program. With the affordable housing development, the Town increased affordable units by 161 percent, and surpassed the State of Massachusetts’s affordable housing goal, requiring all Massachusetts municipalities to have at least 10 percent of all housing classified as affordable. When housing prices sharply rose during the 1990s and 2000s, the Town’s Affordable Housing Development was critical because it provided housing to those who would have been priced out of the market.
