The city of Frisco, Texas, was nominated to the 2005 ICMA Annual Awards Program for its sports complex. As part of its efforts to address retail and commercial development concerns and shortages of family entertainment options, the city partnered with the Frisco Independent School District and a host of private and nonprofit development groups to build a massive sports complex. The centerpiece is a minor league baseball stadium, which brought in 706,534 attendees in the first year of operation. The quality of life has improved dramatically in Frisco, thanks in large part to the public-private partnerships forged by the city.
