2016 Outstanding Achievement in Innovation award winner

In 2015, the City of Carlsbad, in partnership with MiraCosta Community College opened the city’s first Technology Career Institute (TCI) in an under-utilized, vacant city-owned building in the heart of the research business park. TCI is an extensive training facility for advanced manufacturing programs that provides skilled, certified workers in electromechanical engineering, robotics/automation and fluid power. The partnership achieves industry recognized, certificate programs to manufacturing businesses in Carlsbad and adds to the supply of skilled workforce in the region. In its first six months since opening in April 2015, TCI has awarded 389 certificates serving 204 individuals in 12 courses.
