ICMA's Municipal Partnerships for Violence Prevention in Central America (AMUPREV) program arranged for arranged for members of El Salvadorean citizen security councils to visit Santa Ana, California, on a city-to-city exchange. Impressed by one of Santa Ana's successful gang reduction projects, the council members decided to implement a similar project in schools in Nahuizalco and Sonsonate. AMUPREV funded the program, which has helped drastically reduce the amount of violence in these school.
