The town of Wethersfield, Connecticut, was nominated to the 2005 ICMA Annual Awards Program for its role in Capitol Region Council of Governments' (CRCOG's) Natural Gas Procurement Consortium. The CRCOG was tapped in 1998 to institute a pilot program for cooperative natural gas procurement in Connecticut following deregulation of the natural gas market. The intial program success, based upon its team-based nature, has led to many other successes. This narrative describes the program, includes outcomes, and offers lessons learned.
