This report from the Fire Subcommittee to the Walker City Council explores the potential for administrative consolidation of police and fire services by merging both departments under one Director. Per the subcommittee's recommendations, the model of Fire Chief/Police Chief would be eliminated and replaced by a model consisting of one Public Safety Director and subordinate Assistant Directors of Police and Fire, with the major responsibilities of the eliminated Fire Chief position being given to the Public Safety Director position. The subcommittee consulted with City of Walker Fire and Police personnel as well as administrators and officials from nearby communities before making their recommendations.
