The city of Fort Lauderdale sought to convert and expand their existing recycling program into a Single Stream Recycling system. The city wanted to utilize recycling as a growing source of revenue by increasing set-out from current customers, bringing new customers into service, and collecting recyclables from other sources. The city sought to create a business model for recycling that is both environmental preferable and fiscally self-sustaining by providing services, adding tonnage, and controlling the contamination that drives revenue.
