The City of Lenoir, NC, led the way in the creation of a community garden. Facing financial issues arising from the economic downturn, the city looked for ways to beautify its failing economic district.
The garden is community-run and receives funding a sponsorship from local businesses. It is run by volunteers and is continually growing in popularity. The local soup kitchen makes soup from some of the food grown in the garden.
