The U.S. National Incident Management System (NIMS) integrates effective practices in emergency preparedness and response into a comprehensive national framework for incident management. NIMS will enable responders at all levels to work together more effectively to manage domestic incidents no matter what the cause, size or complexity. The IS700 Info Sheet offers a brief outline of who should take the NIMS Introductory course. Institutionalizing the Use of the ICS Info Sheet discusses the need for an integrated Incident Command System across government sectors and among governmental entities. NIMS Development and Guidance highlights the integration of NIMS, with discussion on command and management, preparedness, resource management, communications and information management, supporting technologies, and ongoing management and maintenance. For the NIMS documents, please note that when it discusses the concept of "this year," it is the ICMA staff and the ICMA Governmental Affairs and Policy Committee's understanding that this means by the end of September 2005. Full NIMS compliance is required by the end of September 2006.
