DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Summary:
As the Economic Development Director, you will have the unique opportunity to lead the City of Lawrence’s economic development strategies, activities, and operations. Working collaboratively with City leadership and community partners, you will represent the City’s interests in economic development opportunities. Responsibilities:
Major responsibilities include developing and implementing the City of Lawrence’s economic development efforts and initiatives in alignment with the goals and strategies of the Community Economic Development Strategic Plan and the City’s Strategic Plan. This individual will serve as the liaison to strengthen relationships and collaborate with partner organizations, community-based groups, and various local, regional, and national economic development entities. They will manage fiscal impact analyses and reports, oversee ongoing project development, and present economic and financial reports to various stakeholders, including the City and County Commissions, local school district boards, economic development boards, and other community organizations.
Qualifications:
Knowledge:
Expert in economic development practices, principles, and methods. Proficient in economic trend forecasting and analysis. Knowledgeable about relevant laws and departmental policies. Advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills. Familiar with public sector organization, program operations, project management, budget development, and public community relations.
Experience:
Ten (10) years of progressively more responsible experience in economic development, urban planning, real estate, and/or industrial development experience in the private or public sector.
Training/Education:
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, a Master's degree is preferred.
License or Certificate:
A valid driver’s license is required. Professional certification related to economic development analysis and real estate development financing, such as the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation, is preferred. The successful candidate must pass a background check, post-offer physical, and drug screen.

Full Salary Range: $107,058 - 158,267
Expected Hire Range $107,058 - $130,125
