New London, NH (4,463 pop.), seeks an experienced leader, collaborator, facilitator, and communicator to serve as the next Town Administrator. The current Administrator is retiring after serving 14 years. The population can increase to 16,000 during tourist seasons. Located in the scenic Lake Sunapee region of Central NH, north of Concord in Merrimack County.
New London offers the charm of a quaint New England town that offers unique shops, fine dining, entertainment, and abundant outdoor recreational activities in the area. The Town Common is surrounded by the tree-lined campus of Colby-Sawyer College.
With an operating budget of approx. $13 million including capital reserve, a workforce of 47 full-time and 25 part-time/seasonal employees not including firefighters and library personnel, and no collective bargaining agreements, the Town Administrator is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Town, coordinating the functions of the Office of Select Board and administers the personnel, financial and purchasing policies of the town. The Town Administrator reports to a three-person Board of Selectmen.
New London enjoys an excellent workforce and cohesive staff of department heads and Board of Selectmen. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership skills to guide a team of very competent department heads and town staff. Candidates must also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively continue positive relationships with the staff, boards, residents, and organizations.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible management experience in a municipal setting or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates likely success in the position. Salary range to $147,000; starting salary commensurate with qualifications. The Town offers a competitive benefit package. There is no residency requirement.
