The Community Development Director performs a variety of technical, administrative, and supervisory work while researching, coordinating, and directing current and long-range planning and zoning requirements, mapping and graphics, building inspection functions and City development and redevelopment implementation. Evaluates and develops strategies for meeting the City’s operating, growth, and economic development objectives. Manages and directs the operation of the Building Safety and Code Compliance Division; Geographic Information System (GIS)/Mapping Division, Community Redevelopment Agency, and Planning and Zoning Division. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant City Manager.
Master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in planning, public administration, civil engineering, urban design, law or other related field which includes land use planning or urban planning. Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience working in land and urban planning, managing community/economic development, engaging in CIP and CDP preparation and presentations, taking a leadership role in inter-relationships between components of the developing and redeveloping urban environment, including making oral presentations to large groups in order to influence the development of appropriate public policy response to various initiatives. Must have minimum of five years of supervisory experience.
Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners is preferred.
