For years, ICMA and other organizations have touted the use of data to improve performance, service delivery, and quality of life in the community. A forthcoming Leading Edge Research report makes the data-driven case that performance measurement/management and analytics, as well as data transparency, enable local governments to connect improvements in local government performance and in the community to specific strategies and tactics.
In this Leading Edge Research report, "Realizing Return on Investment in Performance Management," a research team led by David Swindell, associate professor and director of the Center for Urban Innovation at Arizona State University, explores how local governments are leveraging organizational and management value, operational and efficiency benefits, and financial savings from performance management initiatives. It highlights common themes across academic and practitioner literature, ICMA survey research, and a suite of new case studies profiling innovative local governments.
