In 2007, the ICMA membership adopted a Resolution on Sustainability to affirm its belief in the importance of sustainable practices in the management of local government. The Resolution was accompanied by a Sustainable Communities Commitment that individual members can sign.
In adopting the Resolution, members agreed that as an international local government leadership organization, it’s critically important that we establish our place in the sustainability conversations that are taking place every day at the local level. And to compete for the talent of the next generation, we need to be relevant and continue to make sustainability a priority of this organization in order to attract the best and the brightest into our profession.
The Sustainable Communities Commitment is a way for members to come together to raise and leverage their collective voice for responsible growth and development.
