The purpose of the India study tour is to establish a link between local government officials in the U.S. and India, and expose them to the day-to-day challenges that each face when providing services to their citizens. Participants will have an opportunity to speak with Indian officials from a variety of backgrounds and learn how governance works in the fastest growing region of the world. Additionally, participants will be afforded the opportunity to present their successes and challenges as local government officials in the United States.
In addition to learning first-hand the complexities of local governance in India, the study tour is designed to forge a link between professionals with a common cause: democratic local governance implemented for the benefit of citizens. With that in mind, U.S participants will have the opportunity to share their own experiences in local governance, thereby developing these skills within an international context.
The India study tour is another example of ICMA International’s approach of increasing the standard of services delivered and enhancing citizen participation in local government affairs.
While the study tour is designed as a local governance learning opportunity for local government officials, it is also an occasion to explore another country and its myriad cultures. With that in mind, ICMA welcomes its members and their spouses to enjoy this unique tour together.
