The job of an assistant chief administrative officer (ACAO) is complex, requiring the right mix of tactical and leadership skills. This dynamic position involves wearing many hats and is often considered the step before becoming a CAO. ICMA’s ACAO Committee introduces a collection of online seminars to provide pro tips for this role – no matter what your career stage.
Session 2, The New ACAO Bootcamp, focuses on newly-appointed ACAOs and will provide insight and advice on how to successfully establish yourself as the second in command. Inspired by the First-Time ACAO Handbook, you’ll hear candid advice on how to navigate some of the common issues facing a new ACAO. You will discuss:
- Acclimating to the new role
- Setting a clear vision and goals
- Communication strategies for up/down/across the org
- The importance of your relationship with the CAO and strategies for building trust
